Few producers are as dedicated to showing the true beauty of Meursault's terroir as Jean Philippe-Fichet. This small domaine works with a mere 7 hectares, the vast majority of which are in Meursault and a small plot in Puligny, to produce profound, site expressive Chardonnay like his more famous contemporaries of Roulot and Comtes Lafon. Considering the quality of his wines, Fichet should be far more well known, but since he does not have any holdings in the major Premier Crus like Charmes and Perrieres he is often overlooked. While this is unfortunate for Fichet, it's a win for us because his wines are some of the best in all of Meursault but not priced that way.
Jean-Philippe Fichet's dedication to his work is unmatched. He spends every day either out in his vineyards hand tending to the vines or in his winery ensuring each barrel of wine is perfect. All of his wines are made in the exact same way with little new oak, 18 months of elevage in mostly neutral barrels, and only light amounts of lees stirring. This produces wines of precision and focus, and few other wines show Meursault's stony terroir better. The style sits perfectly in the middle between the old school richer, rounder Meursaults, and the smokey reductive style of new icons of today. These ares elegant Chardonnays of perfect ripeness and purity that reveal the terroir that made Meursault so beloved in the first place. Revered Burgundy wine critic Jasper Morris is wowed by these wines each year, often giving them his coveted 5 star rating for his personal favorites each vintage. Fichet's wines represent some of the best values in the village and all of the Côte de Beaune.

86-89 From Allen Meadows of Burghound: "A discreet but not invisible application of wood sets off cool and relatively high-toned aromas of lemongrass and pear nuances. The delicious and vibrant flavors possess a lovely texture while exhibiting solid length on the balanced, dry and refreshing finish that is supported by citrus-tinged acidity. Good stuff for its level and worth a look." *BURGHOUND OUTSTANDING*
