2018 Bruliam "Rocky Road" Rockpile Zinfandel

In 2008, starting with a single barrel, Kerith Overstreet has grown Bruliam Wines to 1000 cases a year of mostly single vineyard pinot noir with a miniscule smidgen of Rockpile zinfandel. Cherishing her grower relationships, Kerith has aligned herself with top vineyards and growers to supply her fruit.  Today she cherry picks her fruit from the top vineyards in Sonoma County, Santa Lucia Highlands, and her own Torrey Hill vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Kerith is a triple-threat: winemaker, former medical doctor, and mom to three kids.  Her final baby, Bruliam Wines, honors her first three: 'Bruno, Lily and Amelia.'  Of course, the 'Bruliam' name and logo riff on the Periodic Table of Elements, with a sly wink to her former medical career. Although her deepest passion is for making wine, Kerith manages all of the day-to-day winery operations.  She also holds the following titles: Chief of Grower Relations, Head of Marketing, Director of Sales, and Go-to Tank Sanitizer.  She writes all of the copy for the website, labels, tasting notes and tech sheets.  So yeah, one could say that she basically holds every winery position herself, with the exception of spreadsheets.  The CF-NO (her Husband) handles Excel. The Dry Creek Valley is Zin country. Bruliam is able to source from their own Rockpile parcel known as 'the Swale' block. This zin is not pink. This zin is not 'hot' or 'jammy,' which are undeniably great assets to a heavy metal cover band. Bruliam's Rockpile Zinfandel is a revelation (cue gospel 'Amen,' sister). I'm not kidding.  You've got to try this stuff.  Even Kerith's mom says so. This is the first vintage with Bruliams new Rockpile partners at the Gloeckner-Turner ranch and they couldn't be more thrilled. From the first drops, the intensity of hue is hypnotic. Then, dark black and blue fruits, heady exotic spice, and cigar box waft from the glass. This Zin is hedonistic and plush, with a backbone of solid acid that keeps her lively and food friendly. This Zin is rich and comforting, like cashmere pajamas. Rockpile is in her DNA. She's gorgeous. You'll love her.
