Given that Aubert's flagship domaine, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, is unobtainable and unaffordable for most of us, these wines are the best way to taste Burgundy's GOAT at the helm of some more affordable bottles. The 2019 vintage in Burgundy is one in which the lesser appellations will reward smart investment because the quality is so excellent across the board. The Bouzeron AOP boasts the best Aligoté in Burgundy, the Aligoté Doré, (instead of the lesser clone, Aligoté Vert, guilty of plain innocuous wines) which gives smaller yields to produce wines with more expressive aromatics. The A&P de Villaine Bouzeron is one of the world's benchmark expressions of the Aligote grape, and should find its way into the cellar of any curious drinker or fan of unoaked, purist Burgundies like Chablis. The rest of the Cote Chalonnaise wines are not to be ignored, as they are the only way to taste Aubert's hand at Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under $100.
